Special Fried Onions

  • Ingredients

    • 2 Large Brown Onions, peeled and thinly sliced.
    • 2 Cups Plain Flour.
    • 2 Eggs.
    • 2 Tablespoons Milk.
    • Pinch of Salt and Pepper.
    • Vegetable Oil for deep frying.

    Method

    • Heat oil in a pot, wok or deep fryer (ensure that the oil is at least 5cm deep) to 180°C.
    • Whisk together eggs and milk in a medium bowl.
    • Mix flour, salt and pepper in another medium bowl (if you want spicy onions you can add chilli powder to the flour).
    • Put onion slices into egg mixture and mix until onions have been are coated.
    • Use tongs to grab a small batch and put into flour mixture and mix until all coated.
    • Remove from flour, giving them a little bang on the edge of the bowl to remove any excess flour.
    • Put into oil and fry for 2 – 3 minutes or until golden brown. Ensure you move them around in the oil to prevent them from sticking to each other and the fryer. Remove from oil, drain and put onto paper towels.
    • Repeat steps 3 – 6 until all onions have been cooked.
